The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Monday evening, as they traveled to Beaman to take on the BCLUW Comets in Class 1A, Substate 3 action at Byron Rhodes Field. South Hamilton entered at 3-16, while BCLUW entered at 11-6.
Following a scoreless first two innings, South Hamilton got on the board in the 3rd off a Braden Young RBI double to put the Hawks ahead 1-0. A scoreless 4th gave way to a 2-run fifth inning as both runs scored on an error, but BCLUW answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 3-3. The Hawks answered with 4 runs in the top of the 6th with a Brayden Moore RBI single, a Braden Young RBI single and a Garrett Johnson 2-run RBI single, as South Hamilton added a run in the 7th on a passed ball to help clinch an 8-3 victory.
Braden Young went 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, as Garrett Johnson went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Landon Sogard picked up the win, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 5.
South Hamilton baseball advances to face the Janesville Wildcats in their Class 1A, Substate 3 quarterfinal matchup, with first pitch at 7 PM at Janesville High School.
