Webster City baseball wins slugfest with Forest City, 14-11

The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Wednesday, as they made the trip north on Highway 69 to take on the Forest City Indians in non-conference action at Forest City High School. Webster City entered at 10-15, while Forest City entered at 16-4.

Webster City struck first with a Gavin Griffith RBI single in the 1st, before putting up 4 runs in the top of the 2nd off a Matt Tesdahl RBI single, a Braylon Dyvig RBI hit-by-pitch and a Gavin Griffith 2-run RBI single to put the Lynx ahead 5-0. From there, the Forest City bats roared to life, putting up 5 runs in the 2nd and 4 runs in the 3rd to take a 9-5 lead. Webster City would have another big inning in their bats, as 3 runs scored on errors, along with a Braylon Dyvig RBI single, an Alex Staley RBI single and a Kaleb Hansen RBI single to put the Lynx ahead 11-9. Forest City tied the game once more in the bottom of the 4th at 11-11, as Webster City took the lead right back in the 5th on Gavin Griffith’s 5th RBI of the night on a double as the Lynx led 12-11. Webster City picked up big insurance runs in the 7th off a Braylon Dyvig RBI double and an Aidan Hrnicek sac fly as the Lynx capped a 14-11 victory.

Gavin Griffith put together a monster day, going 3-for-4 with a double and 5 RBI, as Braylon Dyvig went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Alex Staley picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs and no hits and striking out 5 in the final 3.1 innings.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Thursday, as they hit the road to take on the Osage Green Devils in non-conference action at Osage High School with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
