Eagle Grove baseball falls to Lake Mills and North Union on Tuesday

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Tuesday, as they were slated to face a pair of Top of Iowa West teams in the Lake Mills Bulldogs and the North Union Warriors.

Eagle Grove started the day with a trip to Lake Mills to take on the Bulldogs, as Lake Mills plated 2 runs in the first to take an initial 2-0 lead. Following a scoreless 2nd, Lake Mills blew the doors open on the game, plating 11 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 13-0 lead. Eagle Grove would try and rally, putting up 3 runs in each of the 4th and 5th innings, followed by a run in the top of the 6th to make the score 13-7. However, Lake Mills slammed the door shut in the bottom half, scoring 4 runs to cap a 17-7, 6-inning victory.

Hayden Schafer would go 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Gavin Pedersen went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Syrus Willard was charged with the loss, allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 3.

Eagle Grove then made trekked west to Bancroft to take on North Union in Top of Iowa West action, as the Eagles scored a run in the top of the 1st, only to be rebutted by North Union in the bottom of the 2nd with the game tied at 1-1. Following a scoreless 3rd, North Union put up 4 runs in the 4th, followed by 2 runs in the 6th to clinch a 7-1 victory.

Trenton Robinson went 1-for-4 with an RBI, Adrian Whipple went 1-for-3 with a double, while Hayden Schafer went 1-for-2 with a triple. Brett Ascherl was charged with the loss, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 5 in 4 innings.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Wednesday, when they host the North Iowa Bison in Top of Iowa West action for senior night at Greenwood Park with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
