Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball falls at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 12-3

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball team returned to action on Tuesday, as they made the trip north on Highway 69 to take on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in non-conference action at GHV High School in Garner.

GHV would start the game with a run in the 1st, as CGD immediately answered in the top of the 2nd on RBI singles from Ella Engstrom and Quinn Brooks to take a 2-1 lead. GHV answered in the bottom of the frame, putting up 4 runs in the 2nd and 3 runs in the 3rd to take an 8-2 lead. CGD would get a run back in the 4th off another Quinn Brooks RBI single to cut the deficit to 8-3, but GHV added 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th to walk off a 12-3, 5-inning victory.

Quinn Brooks had the top day at the plate for the Cowgirls, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, as Ella Engstrom went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Tess Wibholm was charged with the loss, allowing 8 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 4 in 2.1 innings.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
