The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 8-14, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL entered at 7-13.
Game 1 started with a scoreless first, before the Lynx put up a 5-spot in the 2nd with a Gordon Bargfrede RBI double, a Braylon Dyvig RBI single, a Brady Asklund sac bunt and a Gavin Griffith 2-run RBI double to put Webster City up 5-0. Webster City would add 2 runs in the 3rd off an error and a Carter Mickelson RBI triple, before 2 more runs in the 4th scored on an Alex Staley RBI single and an Aiden Hrnicek sac fly to put the Lynx up 9-0. Carter Mickelson would keep the Bulldogs bats quiet in relief to clinch a 9-0 victory.
Gordon Bargfrede would go 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Alex Staley also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gavin Griffith went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, while pitching 4 innings and allowing no runs on 1 hit and striking out 3.
Game 2 went very similar to Game 1, as following a scoreless 1st, Webster City put up a pair of runs in the 2nd on a Gordon Bargfrede RBI groundout and a Braylon Dyvig RBI double to put the Lynx ahead 2-0. Webster City would then explode for 7 runs in the 3rd off an error, a wild pitch, an Aiden Hrnicek RBI single, a Gordon Bargfrede RBI double, a Carter Mickelson RBI single, a Braylon Dyvig RBI double and a Matt Tesdahl RBI single to put the Lynx ahead 9-0. The Lynx would add a run on an error in the 4th to take a 10-0 lead, as HD-CAL got on the board in the bottom of the 4th with 2 runs to make it 10-2. Webster City responded with an Alex Staley 2-run RBI single, a wild pitch and a Gordon Bargfrede sac fly to cap a 14-2, 5-inning victory.
Matt Tesdahl would go 3-for-4 with 3 singles and an RBI, Aiden Hrnicek went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Gordon Bargfrede went 1-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Braylon Dyvig would go 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, while pitching 3 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 2.
Webster City baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Alleman to take on defending-Class 3A state champions North Polk in non-conference action at North Polk High School, with first pitch at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
