The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Monday evening, as they hosted the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 7-19, while Greene County entered at 13-9.
Greene County took the initial lead with a run in the top of the first, as South Hamilton answered with 4 runs in the bottom half off a play which saw 3 runs score on an error, before Lillie Ammerman scored on a passed ball to put the Hawks up 4-1. Greene County put up 2 runs in the 2nd to make the score 4-3, and after a scoreless 3rd, the Rams put up 5 runs to take an 8-3 lead. South Hamilton responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th off a pair of Ram errors, before Greene County blew the doors off the game with a 12-run 5th inning, to bring the final to 20-7.
Lillie Ammerman went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Emma Lammers recorded an RBI as well. Emma Lammers drew the loss, allowing 20 runs (4 earned) on 19 hits in 5 innings.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Des Moines to take on Grand View Christian at the North Des Moines Softball Complex with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
