The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they hosted a pair of Heart of Iowa Conference foes in the West Marshall Trojans and Greene County Rams at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell.
Monday’s first game would come against West Marshall, as following a scoreless 1st, West Marshall exploded for 8 runs in the 2nd and 2 more runs in the 3rd to take a 10-0 lead. South Hamilton got on the board in the 4th with an Andrew Jensen RBI triple and a Carson Gibbs RBI double to make it 10-2, a score that lasted until the 7th. West Marshall added 2 runs in the 7th, as the Hawks added a run on a Brayden Moore RBI double in the bottom of the 7th, with the Trojans holding for a 12-3 win.
Brayden Moore went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, Carson Gibbs went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Andrew Jensen went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple. Garrett Johnson was charged with the loss, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits and striking 1 in 1.2 innings.
South Hamilton turned around and welcomed in Greene County, as the Hawks struck first in the bottom of the 1st with a Landon Sogard RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. Greene County then responded with a run in the 2nd, followed by a 7-run 4th inning and a 3-run 5th inning to cap an 11-1, 5-inning victory.
Landon Sogard went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Brody Harris and Carson Gibbs also recorded hits for the Hawks. Braden Young was the losing pitcher, allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 7 hits and striking out 6.
South Hamilton baseball returns to action Tuesday, when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden to take on the Cadets in non-conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
