An accident on Saturday morning, June 28th involving a Union Pacific train and a transport van at the railroad crossing on Neville Street in Woolstock was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. Reportedly a Union Pacific Ballast Regulator train operated by Donald Erbert of Norton, Kansas was traveling north on the tracks when a Union Pacific van backed out of a railroad maintenance road onto 335th Street and onto the railroad tracks facing east. The van was described as a 2018 Ford transit van operated by Wifredo Lara of Chandler, Arizona. The van was starting to move east when it was struck by the train. The van operated by Ebert came to rest on the east side of the tracks while the train came to a rest upright facing north on the railroad tracks. Seven people were treated for injuries in the Saturday morning accident. They were David Garcia from Tucson, Arizona and Marquis Brown of Enterprise, Mississippi. The two men were transported to Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge by Eagle Grove Ambulance. Douglas Rossman of Tehachapi, California was transported to Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City by Eagle Grove Ambulance. Corey Larson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Christobal Cortez of Idaho Falls, Idaho were treated at the accident scene by medical paramedics. Both Lara and Erbert suffered possible injuries in Saturday’s accident. Damage to the van was totaled with no damage to the train. Iowa State Patrol trooper Justin Parman investigated the accident with assistance from the Wright County Sheriff’s Department.
