Eagle Grove softball uses monster 1st inning to speed past Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 14-4

The Eagle Grove Eagles softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered at 13-8, while GHV entered at 8-12.

Monday would belong to Eagle Grove as the Eagles offense was lightning hot early, putting up a staggering 12-run first inning off a pair of errors, a wild pitch, a Chloe Schultz RBI single, a Salem Willard sac fly, followed by an Addy Jeske grand slam and a Holly Anderson 3-run homer to put the Eagles up 12-0. Eagle Grove added 2 more runs in the 2nd off a passed ball and an error to take a 14-0 lead, as GHV scored a run in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 4th, but it would not be enough to keep things going in a 14-4, 4-inning victory.

Addy Jeske went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, Holly Anderson went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, while Crystal Flores went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Mya Morgan pitched all 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and struck out 5.

Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Swea City to take on North Union in Top of Iowa West action with first pitch at 6 PM.
