Eagle Grove baseball holds off Garner-Hayfield-Ventura at home, 3-2

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they hosted the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered at 4-13, while GHV entered at 11-6.

GHV would plate a run in the 1st off a wild pitch, only to be rebutted by a Brett Ascherl RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. From there the game would turn into a pitchers duel between GHV’s Brighton Kraus and Eagle Grove’s Jaxon Morris. In the 5th, it was Eagle Grove who would finally generate offense as Trenton Robinson lined a 2-run RBI double to right center to put the Eagles ahead 3-1. GHV would get a run off an error in the 7th, but Morris was able to slam the door shut in a 3-2 victory.

Leelan Spencer would go 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, Brett Ascherl went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, while Trenton Robinson went 1-for-3 with his 2-run RBI double. Jaxon Morris pitched a complete game gem, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 1 hit and struck out 9.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, as they travel to Lake Mills for a makeup game at 1 PM, before traveling to Bancroft to take on North Union with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
