Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball drops NCC doubleheader at Humboldt

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they made the trip to Humboldt to take on the Wildcats in an NCC doubleheader at Humboldt High School. CGD entered at 8-15, while Humboldt entered at 19-6.

Humboldt would not waste anytime in Game 1, putting up 3 runs in the 1st and a run in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. CGD got on the board in the 3rd with a Paxton Lingenfelter RBI single to cut the score to 4-1, but Humboldt responded with a 4-run third inning and 3 more runs in the 5th to cap an 11-1, 5-inning victory.

Paxton Lingenfelter went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, while Tristan Kakacek, Jacob Ruba and Owen Sweeney all collected hits. Sweeney drew the loss allowing 11 runs (9 earned) on 13 hits and struck out 2 in 4.2 innings.

Game 2 would start much differently than Game 1, as the game went scoreless through the first 2 innings. The 3rd inning saw Humboldt put up 3 runs in the top of the frame, only to be rebutted by 3 CGD runs off a passed ball, a balk and a Kolton Hefti RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. From that point on, it would be all Humboldt as the Wildcats scored 6 runs in the 4th, a run in the 5th and 5 runs in the 6th as Humboldt capped a 15-3, 6-inning victory.

Kolton Hefti would go 2-for-3 with an RBI single, recording the Cowboys only 2 hits of Game 2, as Tristan Kakaeck did record 3 walks in the game. Caleb Sweeney took the loss, allowing 6 runs on 3 hits and striking out 1 in 3 innings.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel up Highway 69 to take on Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in non-conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
