Webster City softball falls at Algona, splits games at Norsemen Classic

The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Friday, as they made the trip into Kossuth County to take on the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Algona High School. Webster City entered at 3-13, while Algona entered at 12-4.

Algona started things off scoring a run in the bottom of the 1st, followed by adding another run in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. Webster City would get a run back in the 5th on a Hailey Brim RBI groundout to bring the score to 2-1, but the Bulldogs would blow the lid off the game in the 5th, scoring 7 runs and enforcing the 8-run rule for a 9-1, 5-inning victory.

Morgan Hackbarth would go 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while Jaylyn Bahrenfuss went 1-for-2 in the game. Jakaela Cherry pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 9 runs on 10 hits and struck out 4.

Webster City would follow up by competing in the Norsemen Classic at Roland-Story over the weekend, taking their first game against Glenwood by a score of 4-1. Morgan Hackbarth went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Breanna Bahrenfuss went 1-for-3 with an RBI, as Morgan Tempel went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Briley VanDeer picked up the win, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 1.

The Lynx ended their day with a 9-1 loss at the hands of (4A) #15 Bondurant-Farrar. Lydia VanDeer drove in the only run of the game for Webster City, going 1-for-2 with an RBI single, as Jakaela Cherry pitched 4 innings, allowing 8 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 1.

Webster City softball returns to action on Monday, when they host Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
