South Hamilton baseball downs Perry, 7-5

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Friday evening, as they made the trip to Dallas County to take on the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Perry High School. South Hamilton entered at 2-12, while Perry entered at 3-17.

South Hamilton would strike first with 3 runs in the top of the first off steals of home by Braden Young and Garrett Johnson, as well as a Brody Harris RBI single, as the Hawks followed with a run in the 2nd off a passed ball to take a 4-0 lead. Perry answered with a run in the bottom of the 2nd, only to have South Hamilton score 2 in the top of the 3rd off an Andrew Jensen RBI single with Jensen later stealing home as the Hawks led 6-1. Perry would begin to rally with 2 runs each in the 3rd and 4th to cut the lead to 6-5, as the Hawks picked up an insurance run in the 6th as Holden Moore scored on a passed ball to help clinch a 7-5 win.

Andrew Jensen went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Brody Harris was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Landon Sogard picked up the win, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits and struck out 5, as Garrett Johnson picked up a 3.2 innings save, allowing no runs and no hits and striking out 1.

South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Monday, as they’ll host 2 games with the first coming against West Marshall at 3 PM, before facing Greene County at 7:30 PM at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell.
