The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Friday afternoon, as they hosted their annual Norsemen Classic softball tournament at the Hennessy Diamonds in Roland. The Norsemen were joined by Bondurant-Farrar, Glenwood, Grinnell, Saydel, Webster City and West Delaware.
Roland-Story opened their tournament on Friday against (3A) #10 West Delaware, as the Hawks put up 2 runs in the 1st, only to be rebutted by a Norsemen run in the 1st off a Keely Oberender RBI single to make the score 2-1. From there, West Delaware put up 4 runs in the 3rd, a run in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th to cap a 10-1, 5-inning victory.
Keely Oberender went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Peyton Jeter went 2-for-3 with a double. Miley Geise picked up the loss, allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and striking out 4.
Saturday saw the Norsemen take down Glenwood by a score of 12-4. Eva Corcoran went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, Evelyn Carlson and Miley Geise also went 3-for-4 with a double as Carlson had 3 RBI and Geise had 2 RBI, as Maddie Berggren went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Miley Geise picked up the win, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 4.
Roland-Story closed the tournament by falling to Grinnell by a score of 10-4. Peyton Jeter and Lauren Crabbs each went 2-for-3 as Crabbs had a double and an RBI, while Evelyn Carlson went 1-for-3 with a triple and 2 RBI. Cece Doyle picked up the loss, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 1.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Monday, when they host Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action with 1st pitch at 7:30 PM.
