Eagle Grove softball wins 2 on Friday, drops 2 on Saturday

The Eagle Grove Eagles softball team returned to action on Friday afternoon, as they made the trip to Winnebago County to take on the Forest City Indians in Top of Iowa West action at Forest City High School. Eagle Grove entered at 11-6, while Forest City entered at 8-6.

Eagle Grove started off well, putting up a run each in the 1st and 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead, but Forest City answered in the 3rd with 2 runs to tie the game at 2-2 after three. From there it would be a pitchers duel between Mya Morgan and Forest City’s Brooklyn Gerdes, which would last until the 8th inning, as Eagle Grove drove in a run to capture a 3-2 run.

Addy Jeske went 3-for-4 with 3 singles, as Crystal Flores and Holly Anderson each went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mya Morgan pitched the complete game, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 7.

Eagle Grove then hopped on the bus and traveled to Garner to take on Lake Mills in the 2nd game of the day.

The first inning and a half would be scoreless, before Lake Mills plated 2 runs to go ahead 2-0. Eagle Grove answered with a run in the 4th off a Lily Locke sac fly to make it 2-1. The Bulldogs would score a run in the 6th to go ahead 3-1, but Eagle Grove would rally in the 7th with an Addy Pamperin RBI single and a Holly Anderson RBI double to send the game into extras at 3-3. The Eagles would put up 3 runs in the 8th off a Chloe Schultz 2-run RBI double and a Salem Willard RBI groundout to put Eagle Grove up 6-3. Lake Mills would plate 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th, but it would not be enough as the Eagles held for a 6-5 win.

Crystal Flores would go 3-for-4 with 3 singles, while Holly Anderson and Salem Willard each went 1-for-4, as Willard had a double and 2 RBI. Johanna Flores-Baez picked up the win in relief, allowing 3 runs off 1 hit and struck out 2.

Eagle Grove would follow up with 2 games on Saturday at the St. Edmond Tournament at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. The Eagles would fall to Gehlen Catholic by a score of 10-0, before losing a close one to Mason City by a score of 7-6.

Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Monday, as they host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park with first pitch at 6 PM.
