The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball team returned to action on Friday, as they made the trip east on Highway 3 to take on the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action in Hampton. CGD entered at 0-15, while HD-CAL entered at 4-10.
CGD would start off fast on Friday, putting up 2 runs in the top of 1st, as Hampton would respond with a run in the bottom of the 1st as the Cowgirls led 2-1. Following a scoreless 2nd, the Bulldogs took the lead off 3 runs in the 3rd, followed by a run in the 4th to hold a 5-2 advantage. CGD answered with a run in the 5th to cut it to 5-3, before a breakthrough, 3-run 7th inning to put the Cowgirls ahead 6-5 and would clinch a 6-5 victory.
Marlee Thompson would go 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Kayla Hasty went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Tess Wibholm pitched the complete game, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 9.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Humboldt to take on the Wildcats in North Central Conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
