The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Wednesday, as they made the trip east on Highway 20 to compete in the annual Waterloo Bucks Summer Bash Tournament at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo. The Norsemen were slated to take on Burlington Notre Dame and Kee, Lansing.
Wednesday’s tournament saw the Norsemen open with Burlington Notre Dame and following a scoreless 1st, Roland-Story got a run across on an error that allowed Gavin Jeter to score to make the score 1-0. Burlington Notre Dame answered with a run in the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1, a score that lasted until the 5th as Roland-Story scored on another error and a William Zamzow sac fly to bring the score and the final to 3-1.
Gavin Jeter would go 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored, as William Zamzow had an RBI and 2 hit by pitches. Braden Wallace pitched the complete game, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 5. The game was also notable as head coach Chris Hill picked up his 4ooth career win after becoming head coach of the Norsemen back in 2006.
Game 2 saw the Norsemen take on the 8th-ranked team in Class 1A and one of the perennial powers in Iowa in the Hawks of Kee, Lansing. Roland-Story got on the board in the 1st on a wild pitch that scored Cael Faber, as the Norsemen added another run in the 3rd on an Aiden Frey RBI double to put Roland-Story ahead 2-0. The 5th saw the Norsemen tally 3 runs off an error and a Gavin Jeter 2-run RBI triple to bring the score to 5-0, as Braden Wallace stole home in the 6th to make the score 6-0. Roland-Story put the finishing touches on things in the 7th with back-to-back RBI triples from Cooper Triggs and Chance Georgious to make the final 8-0.
Gavin Jeter went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and 2 RBI, while Chance Georgious went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and an RBI. Cael Faber pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 8.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they host (2A) #8 Grundy Center in non-conference action at Norsemen Field with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
