South Hamilton softball sweeps West Hancock and Lake Mills

The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Tuesday, as they traveled to Britt to take on the West Hancock Eagles and Lake Mills Bulldogs in non-conference action at West Hancock High School. South Hamilton entered with a record of 5-16.

West Hancock would start off the opening game by putting up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st, only to have South Hamilton answer with a run in the 2nd on a Lillie Ammerman steal of home, followed by 2 runs in the 3rd off a Jill Hesse sac fly and an Emma Lammers RBI single to make the score 3-3. West Hancock would put up 2 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 5-3 lead, a lead that held until the 7th, when South Hamilton exploded for 7 runs on an Emma Ammerman RBI single, a Stella Martensen RBI single, a Jill Hesse RBI single, an Emma Lammers 2-run RBI double and a Claire Hewitt RBI single to take a 10-5 lead and clinch a 10-5 win.

Emma Lammers went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, as Emma Ammerman went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jill Hesse went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI, while also pitching the complete game, allowing 5 runs (0 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 4.

South Hamilton followed by taking on Lake Mills, putting up 2 runs right away in the 1st with an Emma Lammers RBI single and a Claire Hewitt RBI single to go ahead 2-0. Following a scoreless 2nd, the Hawks added 4 runs in the 3rd off an error, a Lillie Ammerman 2-run RBI single and a bases-loaded walk from Claire Hewitt to take a 6-0 lead. Lake Mills would score a run each in the 4th and 5th to cut the lead to 6-2, but South Hamilton added a run in the 6th off an Adey Trask RBI groundout and 2 runs in the 7th off a Lillie Ammerman RBI double and an Allie Neuberger sac fly to help clinch a 9-2 win.

Lillie Ammerman would go 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a double, while Adey Trask went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Emma Lammers picked up the win in the circle, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 7 in a complete game.

South Hamilton softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they host the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action with 1st pitch at 7:30 PM.
