Hamilton County sees an increase in May unemployment figures.

The Iowa Workforce Development office reported today Hamilton County saw an increase in unemployment for May. The figures showed the rate was 3.6 for month. In April, Hamilton County’s unemployment rate was 2.7 percent and in May,2024 the rate was at 2.1 percent. This translates to 7,660 people in Hamilton County who were employed across the county while there were 240 people unemployed last month. The unemployment rates for surrounding Hamilton County include Boone County at 3.3 percent, Franklin County at 3.7 percent, Hardin and Wright Counties tied at 3.1 percent, Story County at 3.2 percent and Webster County at 3.8 percent for the month of May. Iowa’s unemployment rate for May rose slightly to 3.6 percent compared with the April rate of 3.5 percent in the latest statistics.There were 62,400 Iowa who were unemployed in May with 1,669,100 Iowans working across the state.
