The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip to Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Lions Field. Webster City entered at 3-11, while Clear Lake entered at 12-6.
Webster City would get on the board first with a Morgan Hackbarth RBI single in the first to go up 1-0. Clear Lake then answered with 4 runs in the 2nd and a run in the 3rd to hold a 5-1 advantage. Scoring then ceased for 2 innings, as Webster City would cut into the lead with a Hailey Brim RBI single to make it 5-2, but Clear Lake would respond with 5 runs in the 6th to enforce the 8-run rule in a 10-2, 6-inning victory.
Jakaela Cherry went 2-for-3 with a double, while Morgan Hackbarth and Hailey Brim each went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Cherry was charged with the loss, allowing 10 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits and striking out 3 in 5.2 innings.
Webster City softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they host the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
