Webster City baseball splits NCC doubleheader at Clear Lake

The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they made the trip north to Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions in a North Central Conference doubleheader at Lions Field. Webster City entered at 7-13, while Clear Lake entered at 9-7.

Following a scoreless 1st, Clear Lake would get a run across on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 1-0 lead. This was then followed by 2 runs in the 4th off a 2-run RBI single, with another run scoring on an error in the 5th to put the Lions up 4-0. Webster City would then forge a rally in the 7th, scoring 2 runs off a Matt Tesdahl RBI single and an error, but could not finish it off in a 4-2 loss.

Matt Tesdahl would go 1-for-4 with an RBI single, while Brady Asklund would go 2-for-4. Carter Mickelson would pitch 5 innings in relief, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 3.

Game 2 would go much differently, as following a run by Clear Lake in the top of the 1st, Webster City put up 3 runs in the bottom of the frame off an error, and a 2-run RBI double by Aiden Hrnicek to take a 3-1 lead. The Lions scored another run in the 2nd, only to rebutted by 3 more Lynx runs off a Matt Tesdahl RBI single, a Braylon Dyvig RBI groundout and an error to take a 6-2 lead. Following a scoreless 3rd, Webster City broke the game open in the 4th with 6 runs scoring on an Aiden Hrnicek sac fly, bases-loaded walks from Gordon Bargfrede and Alex Staley, a Matt Tesdahl RBI hit-by-pitch, and a Brady Asklund 2-run RBI double as the Lynx clinched a 12-2 victory.

Brady Asklund would go 1-for-2 with a 2-run RBI double, Aiden Hrnicek went 1-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI, while Matt Tesdahl went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Tesdahl also picked up the win on the mound, pitching all 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 8.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Charles City to take on the Comets in non-conference action with first pitch at 7 PM on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
