A number of agreements were approved by the South Hamilton Community School Board at their meeting on June 16th in Jewell. They included the Goldfinch Agreement for Summer strength and conditioning services. The Donovan Group for communication services. Specialty Underwriters LLC for equipment breakdown insurance. A cooperative agreement with Buena Vista University to accept teacher education candidates for practicum, field experience, student teacher or internship. An agreement was renewed with the North Central Consortium which has been renamed THRIVE Academy. The South Hamilton School Board approved the disposition of an old piano and stereo system.
There are 57 South Hamilton elementary students are attending the Summer School program this year to receive additional support in reading and or mathematics. The program will run through the end of June. Building updates are underway at the Elementary school. They include painting the hallway and office cabinets. New library furniture purchased through a STEM grant has arrived. Additionally, a new gaga ball pit donated by the elementary booster club was installed on the north playground.
The South Hamilton board approved a resolution ordering an election on the question of continuing to levy a voter approved physical plant and equipment property tax. This is for the renewal of the Voted PPEL Levy at $1.00 per $1,000 taxable valuation. The current PPEL Levy will expire at the end of the 2027 Fiscal Year. No date has been set for the election.
A public hearing is set for Monday, July 14th for the proposed issuance of approximately $7,500,000 School Infrastructure Sales, Services and Use Tax Revenue Bonds.
The South Hamilton board approved the addition of the Woodward Granger Community School District to the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference beginning with the 2026-27 school year.A superintendent sharing agreement with the United Community School District for the 2025-26 school year was renewed. The board approved the installation of the scoreboard from First Class Signs for $55,955. A 28-E agreement with Hamilton County for a school resource officer pending any recommended changes to the agreement with the Ahlers and Cooney Law Firm. The purchase of Ag Classroom Storage and Furniture was approved from F & E Premier for $73,919.69.
In personnel matters, the South Hamilton approved resignations effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year for paraeducator and assistant boys basketball coach Quintin Meldrem, Heather Thelen with the Middle School/ High School Food Service staff, Office Assistant and Athletic Secretary Chasity Runge and Office Manager Tara Northrop. The following South Hamilton hirings were approved. Trever Ryen as Activities Director, Sybil Below as a High School Social Studies teacher and Junior High Volleyball coach, Anna Brown as a Fourth-Grade teacher, Chasity Runge as as a paraeducator,Tracy Moler as a Summer School instructor and Amy Trask as Yearbook editor for South Hamilton.
