The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the short trip into Boone County to take on the Boone Toreadors in non-conference action at Memorial Park in Boone. Webster City entered at 6-12, while Boone entered at 11-5.
Webster City started off with a run in the 1st as Braylon Dyvig scored on a wild pitch, as Boone rebutted with a run in the bottom half to tie the game at 1-1. Webster City wouldn’t get back on the board until the 4th, when the Lynx popped for 5 runs on a Boston Farley RBI fielder’s choice, an Alex Staley sac bunt, a Matt Tesdahl RBI single and a Brady Asklund 2-run RBI double to put the Lynx ahead 6-1. Boone then responded with a run in the bottom of the 4th, followed by 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, but the Toreadors could not complete the rally as the Lynx held on for a 6-5 win.
Matt Tesdahl would go 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Brady Asklund was 1-for-4 with a 2-run RBI double. Gavin Griffith picked up the win, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and striking out 4.
Webster City would follow by taking on the Saydel Eagles on Saturday at the Jim Gebhart Invitational, as the Lynx and Eagles were tied a 2-2 after 4, Webster City would take the lead in the 5th, only for Saydel to answer with 7 runs in the 5th and 6th combined to cap a 9-4 victory.
Carter Mickelson would go 2-for-4 with a solo home run, while Gavin Griffith went 1-for-4 with an RBI single. Braylon Dyvig was charged with the loss, allowing 9 runs (5 earned) on 12 hits.
Webster City baseball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Clear Lake to take on the Lions in an NCC Doubleheader at Lions Field with 1st pitch at 5 PM on AM 1570 KZWC and kqradio.com.
