The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks baseball teams returned to action on Friday, as the two long-time rivals faced one another in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Norsemen Field in Story City. Roland-Story entered at 12-7, while South Hamilton entered at 2-10.
Roland-Story would put up 4 runs in the bottom half with an RBI fielder’s choice from Colin Willis, an Aiden Frey RBI single, a wild pitch and a Cooper Triggs RBI groundout to put the Norsemen ahead 4-0. South Hamilton answered with a Connor Deppe RBI single to cut the score to 4-1, but Roland-Story answered with 4 more runs off bases-loaded walks from William Zamzow and Colin Willis and an error to put the Norsemen ahead 8-1. South Hamilton answered with an Andrew Jensen RBI hit by pitch and an error to cut the score to 8-3, but Roland-Story answered with a passed ball, an Aiden Frey RBI single and a Gavin Jeter home run to go up 11-3. Braden Young would hit a solo home run in the 4th to make it 11-4, but Roland-Story erased any doubt with 4 more runs in the bottom half to cap a 15-4, 5-inning victory.
Aiden Frey would go 2-for-3 with 2 singles and 2 RBI, while Gavin Jeter went 1-for-1 with a home run and 2 walks, as Braden Wallace picked up the win, pitching the complete game and allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 7. Braden Young would go 2-for-3 with a home run, while Connor Deppe went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI. Landon Sogard was charged with the loss, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 2 hits and struck out 1 in 1.1 innings
