A Belmond motorcyclist died of injuries in Hamilton County on Saturday afternoon, June 14th with details on the crash released this (Monday) morning. The Iowa State Patrol reported a southbound 2007 model Ford F150 pickup truck operated by Martin W. Johnson of Webster City was on Stagecoach Road from 290th Street southwest of Webster City when it attempted to overtake a southbound semi-truck. A northbound 1997 Honda motorcycle operated by Perry Green of Belmond took evasive action as the Johnson pickup overtook the semi-truck. The Green motorcycle ended up striking a northbound 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Mark Smith of Clarion and then another northbound motorcycle, a 2017 Harley Davidson operated by Thomas Anderson of Belmond. Green was transported to a Des Moines hospital by Life Flight and later died of his injuries Smith was transported to Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge by the Stratford EMS for treatment of his injuries.Anderson was flown by Life Flight to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines for treatment in the accident. Johnson escaped injury in the accident on June 15th. Investigating Iowa State Patrol trooper Nathan McKim estimated the damage to the Green motorcycle at $20,000, the damage to both the Smith and Anderson motorcycles estimated at $1500 and no damage to the Johnson pickup. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the June 15th accident scene.
