South Hamilton hires former Iowa State football stand out Trever Ryan as AD

South Hamilton will have a new 7-12 activities director for the 2025-26 school year, as Trever Ryen was named the new Hawks AD at Monday’s school board meeting (6/16).

Ryen, a native of Ida Grove and a 2013 graduate of OABCIG, is best known as a former All-Big 12 punt returner for the Iowa State football program from 2014 to 2017, garnering 1st-team All-Big 12 honors in 2016, while also recording over 1,000 receiving yards in his career. Ryen also competed as a sprinter for the Iowa State Track and Field program, initially beginning his collegiate career as a sprinter at UNI in 2013.

Since 2020, Ryen has served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Iowa State football program. Before coming back to Iowa State, Ryen served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Bowling Green Falcons and the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Competing at OABCIG, Ryen was a Class 2A 1st-Team All-State Running Back for the Falcons from the Des Moines Register and Iowa Newspaper Association, rushing for nearly 1,300 yards and 19 touchdowns. Ryen was also a state champion in 2A 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash his senior year in Class 2A.
