Eagle Grove baseball downs West Hancock, 5-2

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Wednesday, as they hosted the West Hancock Eagles in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. The Eagles entered at 2-10, while West Hancock entered at 5-5.

Following a scoreless 1st, Eagle Grove would plate 2 runs in the 2nd off a Trenton Robinson RBI single and a Hayden Schafer RBI single to put the Eagles up 2-0. Eagle Grove would then score a run in each of the next 3 innings, off an RBI groundout from Adrian Whipple, a Jaxon Morris RBI single, followed by an Adrian Whipple RBI single to make the score 5-0. West Hancock would rally scoring a run in the 6th and a run in the 7th, each off of errors, but the comeback bid would fall short in a 5-2 Eagle Grove win.

Adrian Whipple would go 1-for-3 with a single and 2 RBI, while Hayden Schafer went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Syrus Willard went 2-for-2 with a double, while having a career-night on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 1 hit and striking out 13.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on the St. Edmond Gaels at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
