South Hamilton baseball falls to (3A) #10 Saydel in 5 innings, 11-1

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they hosted the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 2-7, while Saydel entered at 13-4 and ranked #10 in Class 3A.

Saydel would go to work quickly on Monday, putting up 3 runs in the top of the 1st, but South Hamilton rebutted with a Landon Sogard RBI double to make the score 3-1 after 1. Saydel’s offense would not relent, putting up 4 runs in the 2nd and 2 more runs in the 3rd. Following a scoreless 4th, the Eagles put up 2 more runs in the 5th as they held the Hawks off the scoreboard in the bottom half to claim an 11-1, 5-inning victory.

Braden Young would go 2-for-3 with a triple, while Landon Sogard went 2-for-2 with an RBI double. Sogard was also charged with the loss, allowing 11 runs (9 earned) on 11 hits and striking out 2.

South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Eldora to take on the South Hardin Tigers in non-conference action, with 1st pitch at 6 PM
