The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs for a scheduled Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader at Norsemen Field in Story City. Roland-Story entered at 11-7, while Nevada entered at 9-5.
Following a scoreless 1st, Roland-Story put up a run in the bottom of the 2nd of an RBI walk by Jake Knoll to bring the score to 1-0. After a scoreless 3rd, the Norsemen blew the doors open with 12-run 4th inning, which included 2-run RBI doubles from Jake Knoll and William Zamzow, RBI singles from Sam Knoll and Colin Willis, an RBI walk, a wild pitch and a 3-run home run from Gavin Jeter to give Roland-Story a 13-0 lead. Nevada would not score in the 5th as the Norsemen capped a 13-0 victory.
Colin Willis would go 2-for-3 with 2 singles and RBI, William Zamzow went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, while Gavin Jeter went 1-for-2 with a 3-run homer. Braden Wallace pitched a complete game gem, allowing no runs on 3 hits and striking out 6.
Roland-Story would be ahead in Game 2 by a score of 3-0 in the 3rd inning, when the game was called due to severe weather. As of Tuesday morning, a continuation date has not been announced, as Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Perry to take on the Bluejays in a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader with first pitch at 5:15 PM.
