
The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions in a North Central Conference doubleheader at CGD High School. CGD entered with a record of 6-10, while Clear Lake entered at 6-6.
After a scoreless 1st, CGD would be first on the board with a 2-run RBI single from Tristan Kakacek to put the Cowboys up 2-0. That lead would hold until the 4th, when Clear Lake put up a 5-spot in the frame to take a 5-2 lead. The Cowboys answered with a Jacob Ruba RBI single in the 4th to cut the score to 5-3, but Clear Lake would respond with a 6-run 5th, followed by a run in the 6th to help capture a 12-3 win.
Tristan Kakacek would go 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Kolton Hefti went 2-for-4. Jacob Ruba was charged with the loss, allowing 10 runs (8 earned) on 8 hits and striking out 1.
Game 2 would be scoreless after the 1st, but Clear Lake would find offense in the 2nd with a 3-run frame to take a 3-0 lead. The Lions would then blow the doors open in the 3rd with a 9-run frame to go up 12-0, before putting up 3 more runs in the 4th to end the game early in a 15-0, 4-inning victory.
Paxton Lingenfelter recorded the lone Cowboy hit in the loss, as Caleb Sweeney was charged with the loss, allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 2 in 2.2 innings of work.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Rockford in non-conference action at CGD High School with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
