South Hamilton softball knocks off Nevada, drops 2 at BCLUW Tournament

The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Friday, as they made the trip to Nevada to take on the Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Nevada High School. South Hamilton entered at 2-11, while Nevada entered at 2-9.

South Hamilton got on the board first with a 4-run first, with 2 runs scoring on a Lillie Ammerman RBI single, and runs scoring on a Claire Hewitt sac fly and a wild pitch. Nevada answered with 3 runs in the bottom half to make it 4-3, before putting up 2 runs in the 2nd to take a 5-4 lead. South Hamilton would answer back with 2 runs in the 3rd with a Stella Martensen RBI single and an Adey Trask RBI single to put the Hawks ahead 6-5. Nevada took the lead back in the bottom half off a 2-run RBI double, before South Hamilton took the lead in the 5th off an error and an Emma Lammers RBI single at 8-7, as the Hawks held on for an 8-7 victory.

Emma Ammerman would go 3-for-3 with 3 singles, while Lillie Ammerman went 2-for-3 and Adey Trask went 2-for-4. Emma Lammers was the winning pitcher, allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 8.

South Hamilton would follow up with 2 games on Saturday at the BCLUW Tournament, dropping Game 1 to the host Comets 10-2, as Jill Hesse went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Claire Hewitt and Sydnee Flaugh also recorded hits.

The Hawks would then fall to Grundy Center by a score of 12-2, as Jill Hesse went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Lillie Ammerman went 0-for-2 and drove in a run.

South Hamilton softball returns to action on Monday, when they host Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell at 7:15 PM.
