
The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Friday, as they made the trip into Story County to take on the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the SCORE Athletic Complex in Nevada. South Hamilton entered at 2-6, while Nevada entered at 8-5.
South Hamilton would get off to a good start with 3 runs in the 1st off an error, a Brody Harris RBI walk and a Connor Deppe sac fly. Nevada answered in the bottom half with 3 runs of their own to tie the game at 3-3, as the Hawks put up 2 runs in the 2nd off an RBI fielder’s choice to take a 5-3 lead. That lead would last until the 6th, when South Hamilton added 2 more runs on a Garrett Johnson RBI groundout and Landon Sogard scoring on a wild pitch as the Hawks led 7-3. Nevada would then put together a monster rally in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 5 runs to comeback and stun the Hawks in an 8-7 defeat.
Andrew Jensen would go 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while Garrett Johnson would not record a hit, yet drive in 3 runs in the game. Johnson would be the losing pitcher, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits in the 7th inning, as Braden Young pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 4.
South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Monday, when they host (3A) #10 Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex, beginning at 7:15 PM.
