
The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Friday, as they competed in the annual OABCIG Tournament at OABCIG High School in Ida Grove. The Norsemen were joined by the host Falcons, as well as Carroll, Collins-Maxwell, East Sac County, MVAOCOU, Newell-Fonda and Storm Lake.
Roland-Story would take on East Sac on Friday, after the first 2 innings went scoreless, the Norsemen would drive in 2 runs on a Brookelyn Jondle RBI groundout and a Miley Geise RBI single to put the Norsemen up 2-0. East Sac responded with an RBI single in the 3rd to cut it to 2-1, but Roland-Story added an insurance run off a Raiders error in the 4th to take a 3-1 lead and hold for a 3-1 win in 6 innings due to time constraints.
Peyton Jeter and Lauren Crabbs would each go 2-for-3 on the day, as Miley Geise went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Geise also picked up the win, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 6.
The Norsemen would come back on Saturday and face Storm Lake in the tournament semifinals, as Peyton Jeter started things off with a solo home run in the 1st to put Roland-Story ahead 1-0. Storm Lake answered with a run in the 2nd to tie at 1-1, but Roland-Story would reclaim the lead in the 4th with a Keely Oberender 2-run home run in the 4th to give the Norsemen a 3-1 lead. Storm Lake then answered with 2 runs in the 4th, a run in the 5th and 2 more runs in the 6th to capture a 6-3 win in 6 innings due to time constraints.
Keely Oberender would go 2-for-3 with her 2-run home run, while Peyton Jeter went 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
Roland-Story would follow up by taking on Collins-Maxwell in a game that would become an offensive slugfest, as Collins-Maxwell pulled off a 15-14 win in 8 innings. Miley Geise went 2-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, as Eva Corcoran went 1-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Monday, when they host the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Hennessy Diamonds in Roland with 1st pitch at 7:30 PM on 95.7 KQWC and streaming on kqradio.com.
