South Hamilton baseball drops road bout with (3A) #6 Ballard in 5, 11-1

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Thursday, as they made the trip into southern Story County to take on the Ballard Bombers at Nitehawk Field in Slater. South Hamilton entered at 2-5, while Ballard entered at 12-2 and ranked #6 in Class 3A.

Following a scoreless 1st inning, South Hamilton took the initial lead off a Parker Stuck RBI single to put the Hawks ahead 1-0. Ballard would respond in a big way in the bottom half, putting up 6 runs on 2 RBI doubles and a pair of Hawk errors to take a 6-1 lead. The Bombers would add 3 more runs in the 3rd off a Sid Farmer home run, an RBI single and a hit by pitch to take a 9-1 lead. Ballard then scored a run in the 4th and a run in the 5th to enforce an 11-1, run-rule victory.

Braden Young would go 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a walk, while Parker Stuck would go 1-for-2 with an RBI single. Brody Harris was charged with the loss, allowing 9 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits and striking out 2 in 3 innings of work.

South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Nevada to take on the Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 7:30 PM.
