Roland-Story softball upsets (2A) #9 East Marshall, 10-9

The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Thursday, as they hosted the East Marshall Mustangs in non-conference action at the Hennessy Diamonds in Roland. Roland-Story entered at 7-3, while East Marshall entered at 9-2 and ranked #9 in Class 2A.

Roland-Story would come out scorching on Thursday, putting up an 8-run 1st inning thanks to a 3-run RBI doubles from Keely Oberender and Maddie Berggren, and 1-run RBI doubles from Evelyn Carlson and Peyton Jeter. East Marshall would answer with 3 runs in the top of the 2nd, before storming back in the 4th with 6 runs to take a 9-8 lead. Roland-Story would dig deep in the 6th, as Kate Berggren drove in 2 runs on an RBI double to reclaim a 10-9 lead for the Norsemen, as Roland-Story closed things out in the 7th to pick up a 10-9 upset.

Keely Oberender, Peyton Jeter, Kate Berggren and Evelyn Carlson would all go 3-for-4 with doubles, as Oberender drove in 3 runs, Berggren drove in 2 runs, while Carlson and Jeter drove in a run. Kennedy Hodnefield picked up the win in relief, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits and striking out 2.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Friday afternoon, when they compete in the two-day OABCIG Invitational in Ida Grove.
