Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball falls to Bishop Garrigan at Target Field, 5-2

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Thursday, as they made the trip to the Twin Cities to take on the Golden Bears of Algona Bishop Garrigan in non-conference action at Target Field in Minneapolis. CGD entered at 6-9, while Bishop Garrigan entered at 6-4.

Thursday’s game would get halfway through the 1st inning before a 30-minute rain delay paused action, as CGD would be first on the board in the 2nd with Caleb Sweeney scoring on a Kohen Langfitt RBI groundout to put the Cowboys up 1-0. Garrigan answered with a run scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom half to tie it at 1-1, before Ethan Hasty drove in a run in the 3rd on an RBI double to put the Cowboys up 2-1. That lead would hold until the 5th, when Bishop Garrigan drove in 3 runs off a Carter Schwab 2-run RBI triple and a passed ball, to put the Golden Bears ahead 4-2. Garrigan would add an insurance run in the 6th off an error, as the Cowboys weren’t able to mount a 7th inning rally in 5-2 defeat.

Tristan Kakacek would go 2-for-4 with a single and a double, as Ethan Hasty went 1-for-2 with an RBI double. Jacob Ruba would pick up the loss despite pitching well, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 3.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Monday, when they host Clear Lake in NCC doubleheader action at CGD High School, with first pitch at 5 PM.
