
The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action Tuesday, as they made the short trip north on Highway 69 to take on the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in non-conference action at Belmond-Klemme High School. CGD entered with a record of 5-9, while Belmond-Klemme entered at 1-8.
CGD would put up runs early and often on Tuesday, with 3 runs in the 1st off a Kolton Hefti 2-run RBI single and a passed ball, as Belmond answered with a run in the bottom half at 3-1. CGD added a run in the 2nd on a Jacob Ruba RBI single, before putting up 3 more runs in the 3rd off a HBP, a Paxton Lingenfelter RBI single and an Ethan Hasty sac fly to make the score 7-1. The Cowboys added 2 more runs in the top of the 4th off a passed ball and a balk to make it 9-1, as Belmond rallied for a run in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th to make it 9-5. CGD then put up 5 runs in the 6th off a Tristan Kakacek RBI single, Kakacek stealing home and a Kolton Hefti 2-run RBI single to make it 14-5. Belmond would not go away with 4 more runs in the 6th to make it 14-9, but CGD added 4 more runs in the 7th to help seal an 18-9 win.
Kolton Hefti put together a big game at the plate, going 2-for-5 with 5 RBI, while Tristan Kakacek was 1-for-4 with 3 RBI and Jacob Ruba was 1-for-2 with 3 RBI. Owen Sweeney was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 5 in 4 innings.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they take on the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears in non-conference action at Target Field in Minneapolis, following the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers at 4 PM.
