Webster City softball falls at home to Algona, 14-6

The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Monday, when they hosted the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 1-4, while Algona entered at 5-3.

Algona would come out of the gates scorching on Monday, putting up a 7-run 1st inning before Webster City took the plate. The Lynx did claw back with 3 runs in the bottom half from a Jakaela Cherry solo home run and a Breanna Bahrenfuss 2-run home run to make the score 7-3. The next 2 innings would be scoreless before Algona put up 3 more runs in the 4th, followed by a run in the top of the 5th to make it 11-3. Webster City would respond with a 3-run 5th off a Cloe Savitski RBI single and a Jaylyn Bahrenfuss 2-run RBI double to make it 11-6 after five. Algona then answered with 3 more runs in the 6th to make it 14-6, as the Bulldogs kept the Lynx off the board in the bottom half to capture a 14-6 win.

Breanna Bahrenfuss and Jakaela Cherry would each go 1-for-3 with home runs, while Morgan Hackbarth would go 2-for-3 on the day. Jakaela Cherry picked up the loss in the circle, allowing 14 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and striking out 5 in 6 innings.

Webster City softball returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hampton-Dumont-CAL to take on the Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at 7:30 PM.
