
The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they made the trip to Des Moines to take on the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader action at Jim Gebhart Field. Roland-Story entered at 10-4, while Saydel entered at 8-2.
Roland-Story would jump ahead in the 1st on a Colin Willis RBI single to take a 1-0 lead, but Saydel would put up 3 runs in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead. The Norsemen got a run back in the 2nd as Cael Faber drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-2, but Saydel put up 3 more runs in the bottom half to take a 6-2 lead. Saydel would add a 2 runs in the 4th, before the Norsemen got a run back on a Colin Willis RBI groundout to make it 8-3, but another Saydel run in the 6th helped cap a 9-3 win for the Eagles.
Colin Willis would go 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, while William Zamzow went 1-for-4 with a double. Ryan Kepler was charged with the loss, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits in an inning of work.
Game 2 would be a much more defensive battle, as Saydel scratched across the 1st run in the 2nd to take a 1-0 lead. Roland-Story answered in the 4th with a Gavin Jeter RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. That score would hold until the 7th, when the Norsemen took the lead on a Gavin Jeter RBI single and go up 2-1. However, Saydel answered with a sac bunt in the 7th, which turned into an error that scored the winning run as Saydel stole a 3-2 victory.
Gavin Jeter would go 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Cooper Triggs was 2-for-2 with a triple. Jake Knoll was charged with the loss in relief, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on no hits and struck out 1.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel back to Des Moines to take on Grand View Christian in another Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader at the Cownie Baseball Park, beginning at 5:15 PM.
