Eagle Grove baseball falls at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 8-1

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Monday, as they made the trip into Hancock County to take on the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in Top of Iowa West action at GHV High School. Eagle Grove entered at 1-6, while GHV entered at 5-2.

Eagle Grove would strike first on a Leelan Spencer sac fly that scored Jaxon Morris to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. GHV answered in the bottom half with a run to tie the game at 1-1, which would be the score into the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, GHV put up a pair of runs in the frame to go up 3-1, before blowing the doors open in the 6th with a 5-run frame as GHV captured an 8-1 victory.

Adrian Whipple would have the top night at the plate for the Eagles, going 2-for-3 while Jaxon Morris went 1-for-3. Syrus Willard was the losing pitcher, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits and striking out 3.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Wednesday, when they host North Union in Top of Iowa action at Greenwood Park, beginning at 7:30 PM.
