The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action at CGD High School. CGD entered at 5-7, while HD-CAL entered at 1-10.
Game 1 saw HD-CAL control from the beginning, as the Bulldogs scratched across a run in the top of the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. Following a scoreless 2nd, HD-CAL put up 4 runs in the 3rd to push their lead to 5-0. CGD would get on the board with a Jacob Ruba RBI single to make it 5-1, but the Bulldogs would add two more runs in the 7th to cap a 7-1 victory.
Kohen Langfitt would go 2-for-3, while Huxley Lingenfelter went 1-for-3 with a triple. Jacob Ruba would go 2-for-3 with an RBI, while also picking up the loss, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits in 4 innings.
Game 2 would be a much more competitive ballgame, as Hampton jumped out ahead early once again with a run in the 1st, followed later by a 4-run 4th inning to take a 5-0 lead. However, CGD attempted to flip the script as the Cowboys plated 3 runs in the 5th off RBI singles by Jacob Ruba, Kolton Hefti and Ethan Hasty to bring the score to 5-3. The Cowboys then tied the game with RBI singles from Kolton Hefti and Ethan Hasty in the 7th, sending the game into extra innings. This game would last until the 11th, as Hampton would walk things off with an RBI single to pick up a 6-5 win.
Ethan Hasty would go 4-for-5 with 2 RBI, while Kolton Hefti was 2-for-6 with 2 RBI. 8th Grader Drew Smith would be charged with the loss, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 4.
