
The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Friday, as they hosted the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 0-6, while Perry entered at 2-2.
Perry started off the night taking a 1-0 lead in the first, before South Hamilton answered with 2 runs scored off an error and an RBI fielder’s choice from Claire Hewitt to put the Hawks up 2-1. From there Perry began to rally with 3 runs in the 3rd, a run in the 4th and 4 runs in the 5th and a run in the 7th to take a 10-2 lead. South Hamilton would score a run in the bottom of the frame with a Rosemary Chamness RBI groundout to bring the final to 10-3.
The Hawks would have 2 players drive in runs in Claire Hewitt and Rosemary Chamness, while Jill Hesse went 2-for-4 on the day. Hesse was also charged with the loss in the circle, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 3.
South Hamilton returned to action on Saturday by competing in the Hudson Tournament in the Waterloo Metro. The Hawks dropped their opener to Grundy Center by a score of 10-1, as Claire Hewitt drove in the lone run for the Hawks with Emma Lammers allowing 10 runs, only 1 earned in the loss.
Game 2 saw South Hamilton lose to Denver 9-1, as Jill Hesse drove in the lone run while allowing 9 runs (4 earned) in the loss. The Hawks would finally get in the win column in the final game of the day, a 10-0 shutout of Dunkerton in 4 innings. Claire Hewitt and Emma Ammerman each had 2 RBI, while Emma Lammers pitched a 1-hit shutout.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Jefferson to take on Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Jefferson Softball Park at 7:30 PM.
