
The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Friday, as they hosted the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 0-4, while Perry entered at 0-9.
Perry started the night off by taking an early lead off a sac fly in the 1st, but South Hamilton would get 2 runs in the 2nd off Carson Gibbs bunt and error that allowed the runs to score to put the Hawks up 2-1. South Hamilton would then get 2 more runs in the 3rd off another error to take a 4-1 lead, as Brayden Moore stole home in the 6th to put the Hawks up 5-1. Perry would put up 2 runs in the 7th, but could not finish the rally as South Hamilton held on for a 5-3 win.
Braden Young would have a big night for the Hawks, going 2-for-3 with a triple, while picking up the win on the mound, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 8 in 6 innings of work. Garrett Johnson picked up the save, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits.
South Hamilton baseball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Jefferson to take on Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Allensworth Field, beginning at 7:30 PM.
