Webster City boys soccer season ends in 2A Semis against Gilbert, 1-0

The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Wednesday, as they took on the Gilbert Tigers in the Semifinal Round of the Class 2A State Soccer Tournament at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines. Webster City entered as the 7-seed at 17-0, while Gilbert entered as the 1-seed at 16-0-1.

The first half would see both sides have numerous opportunities to score, but both teams were unable to cash until late in the first half. Off a corner kick, Gilbert’s Preston Stensland would be in the right place at the right time and converted in the 38th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Webster City would have chances in the 2nd half, but were unable to convert as Gilbert held on for a 1-0 victory.

Gilbert advances to face Bishop Heelan in the Class 2A State Championship Game on Friday at 2:30 PM. Webster City’s storybook season ends with a record of 17-1.
