Roland-Story softball downs Greene County in Jefferson, 6-3

The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Monday, as they made the drive to Jefferson to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Jefferson Softball Park. Roland-Story entered at 2-1, while Greene County entered at 2-3.

It would be Greene County starting things fast, putting up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st to take a 3-0 lead. The Norsemen began chipping away at lead in the 3rd with a Peyton Jeter RBI ground out and a Keely Oberender RBI single to make the score 3-2. That score would last until the top of 7th, when the Norsemen tied the game with a Keely Oberender RBI double to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to extras. In the top of the 8th, the Norsemen took control with an RBI HBP from Evan Corcoran, an RBI fielder’s choice from Maddie Berggren and an RBI single from Peyton Jeter to put the Norsemen up 6-3, where they would hold for the win.

Keely Oberender would go 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, while Peyton Jeter was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. Miley Geise pitched all 8 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 8.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host South Hamilton at the Hennessy Diamonds in Heart of Iowa Conference action, beginning at 7:30 PM.
