Eagle Grove baseball picks up 1st win of season over Belmond-Klemme, 8-1

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Friday, as they hosted the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered at 0-3, while Belmond-Klemme also entered at 0-3.

Following a scoreless 1st inning, Eagle Grove put up a run in the 2nd to take an initial 1-0 lead. The Eagles then put up 3 runs in the 3rd, followed by a Bronco run in the 4th to put Eagle Grove ahead 4-1 after 4. This was followed by a prosperous 4-run 5th for the Eagles, who went ahead 8-1 and kept the score as the final.

Senior Jesus Baez and Junior Hayden Schafer each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 singles, while Brett Ascherl went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Syrus Willard picked up the win, pitching 4 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 10, while also going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Algona to take on Bishop Garrigan in Top of Iowa West action at 7:30 PM.
