The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Friday, as they hosted the Bison of North Iowa in non-conference action at CGD High School in Clarion. CGD entered with a record of 2-4, while North Iowa entered at 0-2.
It would be a fast start for the Cowboys, scoring 3 runs in the 1st off a pair of RBI walks and a passed ball, as North Iowa would answer back with 2 runs of their own in the top of the 2nd to make it 3-2. However, CGD put together a successful, 7-run inning in the 2nd including an RBI single from Ethan Hasty and a 2-run RBI double by Ryland Morgan as the Cowboys went up 10-2. North Iowa would get a run back in the 3rd, but CGD would put up 4 more runs in the 3rd, followed by 4 more runs in the 4th to cap an 18-3 rout.
Junior Kolton Hefti had the top day at the plate for the Cowboys, going 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI, while freshman Ryland Morgan went 1-for-1 with a double, 3 RBI and 3 walks. Jacob Ruba was the winning pitcher, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and striking out 3.
