Douglas Getter

Douglas David Getter, 77, passed away peacefully at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City on May 29, 2025.

Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife of 17 years, Loween (Schroeder) Getter; children Dave (Chantel) of Urbandale, Paul (Kara) of Milwaukee, and Anne (Bob) Wiersma of Johnston; step-children Aaron Clayberg of Urbandale and Nate (Kelly) Clayberg of Independence; and 11 grandchildren.
Doug was very active in the communities in which he lived and donated his time and energy across a variety of initiatives. He served on the Urbandale School Board, the City Councils in Urbandale and Webster City, and as Mayor of Webster City. Doug was active in Community Theater in both Urbandale and Webster City.
Doug served as the Executive Director of the Iowa Biotechnology Association from 1997 until his retirement in 2010 and was actively involved in economic development, technology policy and entrepreneurial business development in the state of Iowa for more than 25 years working with both Governor Ray and Governor Branstad. Doug played an instrumental role in promoting the adoption and expansion of gasohol in the state of Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at the church. A burial at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City will take place at a future date. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with services.
