Eagle Grove baseball drops road non-con matchup with Pocahontas Area, 7-1

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Thursday, as they made the trip into Pocahontas County to take on the Pocahontas Area Indians in non-conference action at the Pocahontas Athletic Complex. Eagle Grove entered at 0-2, while Pocahontas entered at 1-1.

Pocahontas would get out of the gates hot on Thursday, as Hunter Trewyn launched a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 1st to set the tone as the Indians took a 3-0 lead. The Indians added two more runs on a Blake Bunda 2-run homer in the 2nd to take a 5-0 lead, before Eagle Grove got on the board with an RBI groundout by Syrus Willard to cut the score to 5-1. Pocahontas answered in the bottom half, as Hunter Trewyn hit his 2nd home run of the day and Carson Bunda had an RBI double as the Indians would hold serve for a 7-1 win.

Syrus Willard would drive in the lone Eagle run on the afternoon, going 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI, while Jaxon Morris was the losing pitcher of record, pitching 3 innings and allowing 5 runs on 2 hits and striking out 4. Trenton Robinson pitched 3 innings in relief, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 4.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Friday, when they host Belmond-Klemme in Top of Iowa West action at 7:30 PM.
