
The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Thursday, as they hosted the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines in non-conference action at CGD High School in Clarion. CGD entered Thursday at 1-4, while West Bend-Mallard entered at 0-2.
Following a West Bend run in the top of the first, the Cowboys put up 5 runs in the bottom of the frame, with 2 bases-loaded walks and a bases clearing double by Caleb Sweeney to put CGD up 5-1. Both sides would exchange a run in the 2nd, as CGD put up 5 more runs in the 3rd off a Paxton Lingenfelter RBI single, a wild pitch, and a Chaz Lane 2-run RBI single to put the Cowboys up 11-2. West Bend would score 2 runs in the 4th, followed by a Tristan Kakacek RBI ground out in the bottom half to give CGD a 12-5 lead, as Ethan Hasty added an RBI single in the 6th to put the Cowboys up 13-5. West Bend would put up 2 runs in the top of the 7th, but CGD would cruise from there for a 13-7 win.
Ethan Hasty and Paxton Lingenfelter would each go 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Caleb Sweeney went 1-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Sweeney was also the winning pitcher of record, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 2.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Friday, when they host North Iowa in non-conference action at CGD High School with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
